My name is David Hackett, OD, FCOVD and in each of my eye care clinics, my team and I take great care to welcome all ages and abilities. We are just as comfortable providing glasses and contacts to an adult as we are with evaluating an infant with an eye turn. We can train new contact lens wearers, and can generally take care of the whole family.

I really enjoy helping people understand their eyes and explaining what we find in ways that are meaningful and easy to understand. It is fun for me to offer individualized recommendations for glasses depending on your specific needs; hobbies, computer workstations, music performance, prism.

Some patients don’t need glasses and value the peace of mind that we are monitoring their eye health for macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, and other silent conditions.

Many parents do not realize their child sees things different than their peers. Younger children don’t have the language to communicate their experience and older children have never known anything other than what they see. MOM Magazine has published some articles with more good info on this.

We can gauge vision (20/20 type score) and prescription (glasses, myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism) on children as young as 6 months of age and those who are non-verbal. You don’t need to wait for the pediatrician to recommend an exam to have us examine your child.

To summarize: I do everything except eye surgery. If you need that I’d be happy to refer you to the appropriate specialist. Everyone needs an eye exam every year, starting at age 6 months.
